New fund supports student entrepreneur innovation

Student entrepreneurs soon will have more opportunities to innovate and grow their businesses with financial support from technology entrepreneurs Sid and Sophie Mookerji. A $120,000 gift from the couple will establish the Mookerji Innovation Fund in Kennesaw State’s Robin and Doug Shore Entrepreneurship Center. Focused on executing technology innovation and ideas, the new fund will provide an investment and early stage guidance for 12 small business and startups founded and run by KSU students and alumni.

Longtime KSU supporters establish scholarship for entrepreneurs

Doug and Robin Shore have developed a close relationship with Kennesaw State through two decades of supporting the University, including funding several scholarships, serving on advisory boards, visiting KSU’s educational site in Italy and attending countless on-campus events. Their latest gift will support a group near and dear to Doug, the next generation of entrepreneurs.

Accounting alum sees mentorship as way to give back

As a successful information technology auditor for Atlanta-based Rausch Advisory Services, Megan Beeston Panella says that the professional mentorship she received at Kennesaw State University was critical in helping her choose a career path. Now, four years after graduating a second time, Beeston Panella continues to return to campus to offer that same mentorship to others.

KSU researchers offer insight to education policy makers

Kennesaw State University’s Office of Research is hosting a one-hour web show every other Friday at 4 p.m. to showcase the varied research being conducted by KSU faculty members. “Research with Relevance” spotlights Kennesaw State researchers in a live interview followed by an interactive question-and-answer session with the virtual audience. This week’s episode features assistant professor of economics Greg Phelan and limited term assistant professor of economics Heidi Holmes, who are researchers in the Education Economics Center in the Coles College of Business.

Kennesaw State, UT program to offer research experience to ROTC students

Kennesaw State University and the University of Tennessee (UT), in collaboration with the Office of Naval Research, will launch a unique program training a cohort of Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) students at each institution in cybersecurity, data analytics and advance manufacturing.

KSU's graduate enrollment increases for summer term

Summer enrollment for graduate students at Kennesaw State University increased more than 14 percent over last year, of which 6 percent are newly admitted and 24 percent are returning graduate students, according to data from the Graduate College. This increase represents the third consecutive year that enrollment in KSU’s graduate programs have grown. Over the past three years, including fall, spring and summer semesters, the University has experienced an average increase of 9 percent in graduate enrollment.

Scholarship Endowment Established in Honor of Late KSU Alumnus

Allen Brooks can recall the first time he met the late Kennesaw State University alumnus John Boyko on the way to his usual fishing spot. At the time, Boyko was a freshman business student at Kennesaw State working part time at a local bait shop, allowing the two to build a friendship over their common interests. By the time Boyko entered his junior year, he would receive an invitation to complete an internship at Kennesaw-based company ServIT, where Brooks served as president, and ultimately blossomed into whom Brooks said was the company’s “first marketing genius.”

For the third consecutive year, Kennesaw State is a leading choice for students, according to data from U.S. News & World Report. The U.S. News study determined that Kennesaw State has one of the nation’s highest admissions yield rates, meaning the percentage of admitted students who enroll.

Coles College students aid small businesses hit by pandemic

Birton Cowden’s undergraduate entrepreneurship and MBA students are putting their classroom knowledge to work to help businesses struggling to survive through the Covid-19 pandemic. “I put a challenge out to all of my current and past students to take action to help their local small businesses,” Cowden said. “I told them I would give them a large sum of extra credit to come up with alternative business models or even new ones for local businesses to give value to their customers.” Cowden is assistant professor of management and research director at Coles’ Robin and Doug Shore Entrepreneurship Center in the Michael A. Leven School of Management, Entrepreneurship and Hospitality. He said the idea came easily to him, because the class he teaches for undergraduate capstone students is about how to thrive during uncertainty.
